Mobile History
Inspired by Lennel, here!
Lennel wrote a blog post tracing the handphones he ever owned, and I was horrified by the number of phones he had. So I decided to trace my own mobile history to see if its even comparable.
Phone 1: Ericsson T10 – 2001

I got my first hp in 2001, when my Dad bought me a prepaid card to use on his old phone.
Phone 2: Motorola XXX – 2002
I have no pictures for this because I cannot even remember the model number. I just remember it was blue and had tiny buttons. I also loved the version of Snake on that phone.
Phone 3: Ericsson T68 – briefly in 2002
When my Dad joined Reeds Exhibition, this was the phone they gave him and he let me used it. Which I was really excited about because it was one of the first few colour screen phones!
Phone 5: Panasonic XXX – End 2002
Again, no picture because I have no idea what the model was. I remember my N7210 was spoilt, and my mum bought this as a temporary replacement from her colleague. And on the day of my O level math paper, I left it in my bag and accidentally did not cap my water bottle. My bag was water proof, so I only discovered the phone swimming in it hours later!
Phone 4: Nokia 7210 – 2003 to 2004

I remember buying this phone by myself in JC, when I won some money from the humanities scholarship. Nothing special about it, except it had a colour screen and polyphonic ringtones – cool stuff for that era k!
Phone 5: Nokia 6610i – 2005

First camera phone. And then I lost it a few days before my birthday because I left it in the cab after clubbing… so…
Phone 6: Nokia 6610i – 2005-2006

My mum bought my the SAME phone on my birthday. That’s also when my hp number became 9XXX2005, the date my mum bought the phone. (and the closest number to my birthday she could find).
Phone 7: Nokia 7260 – 2006-2007

My mum bought this for me. I remember being very surprised because she bought the 6610i not too long ago. I have to say, this was one of my favourite phones. Design and touch wise. I had been eyeing it for a long time! Random- my ringtone on this hp was Don’t Phunk With My Heart, very noisy. And then, it was Hollaback Girl, haha! It was also the first time my phone had supposedly more sophisticated functons like an organizer, but I soon discovered I could not be bothered with it.
Phone 8: Sony Ericsson K800i – 2007-mid 2008

Before this phone, I was a stubborn Nokia fan who thought I’d only ever buy Nokia phones because it was easy to use. This was my first leap of faith into non-Nokia territoy and I loved it. Since then, I’ve been a fan of Sony Ericsson phones. I loved the sms input system, the look, the interface, the design. Until this day, this remains my favourite phone and I cannot emphasize how much I love it. Unfortunately, I lost it on the bus one day (again, in my birthday period).
Phone 9: Sony Ericsson G900 – 2008 to Present

Another Sony Ericsson phone, $398 out of my own pocket. And I hate it because it is so slow. Its design and 5.0 MP camera was what lured me to it, but really, the camera was a downright disappointment. BUT there are still things I appreciate about it- it’s my first touch screen phone, sticky notes application (really rocks, can scribble or type reminders onto posits, the overall look on the screen, wireless connectivity). Okay, I still really like it’s design… all guyish and stylish.
Phone 10: XXXXX – ?????

I have no idea when I am going to buy a new phone, or which it will be. I’ve decided I’m not particularly concerned with functions, as long as it has a few basic stuff like a camera, mp3 ringtones, sms, call, alarm clock (noticed how the ‘basics’ we expect out of a phone evolved so quicky? I can’t even read from a phone without a colour screen now). I can only hope it’s purple colour!
Additional Note: I’m sure I’ve experimented with a few other phones while my phone was in repair, spoilt, lost etc. I vaguely remember having brushes with Nokia 8250, Nokia 6610, Nokia 3310 and various others.
