Resolutions 2010 Check

Comments Off

December 30th, 2010 Posted 5:35 pm

I just found my 2009 resolutions. As usual, I forgot about them less than halfway through the year, but I decided to do an evaluation anyway. I enjoy goal tracking…

1. To be more conscientious/careful: I only discovered I was such a careless person when I started work! I guess I managed to get by being careless in school all my life… once I started work, I also discovered that I was just careless in general, including my daily life! I’m going to learn to pay more attention to every detail, and be alert!

I think I have improved slightly at work, but I am still not sufficiently detail oriented and am still careless and foolhary in my daily live. I must set higher standards for myself…

2. To be tidier and more organized: SIGH. I think it’s stressful trying to be neat and tidy, but I think its a valuable trait at work and also in general..messiness is quite a waste of time, I discovered. And as of 2009, I’ve 2 naggy neat men in my life (my Dad + Lennel),  so I better work on it, again!

Fail. But at least, I tidied my room twice this year, and did come back to office on a recent holiday just to tidy my desk. I must keep improving on this. It is the one thing I am most ill disciplined with, although I do not consider myself to be that messy.

3. To exercise consistently: It there a year I’ve never set this goal? That was difficult to keep up when I started work… but I must! I’ll consider this goal reached when I run the half marathon again.

I think I exceeded my goal. I ran a half marathon and a full marathon, and have been running consistently throughout the year. I am proud of myself! =D

4. To have more time for my family/friends: Life has been such a mad rush all the time that I’ve struggled with trying to stay in touch with all the people I love. Sometimes I try to talk to them online, sometimes I sms, sometimes I meet them, rarely I call them. There have been weeks when I barely see my family members, and it made me sad. I think more focus in life and better time management will solve this.

I do not know. I think I might have maintained the status quo or improved just slightly, but I do not think I made that much effort. Sigh.

5. [included on 1st Jan 2010] To do situps/crunches everyday: I think it’s almost impossible to stop fats from migrating to your tummy once you’ve begun work. I don’t think my tummy has grown to disgusting proportions yet, but I can feel its degeneration ever since I stopped doing inclined situps in the gym. I’m sure its possible to do something about it every single day, only takes 5 minutes!

I did not do this everyday, but most days of the week, after my runs. I find it easier to run than do exercises! Also, the number of situps/crunches I do has basically remained constant, which effectively means no progress. Sigh.

I recently came to the conclusion that resolutions are an excuse to procrastinate. Basically, you feel good about yourself after setting them, but are putting it off to ‘when next year arrives’. In fact, we should make resolutions and start immediately. I have started on my 2011 water bottle resolution…

Moving on

July 19th, 2010 Posted 8:44 pm

Well, I’ve a new blog.

No significant reason at all!

I think this site is a bit cluttered and buggy, so I wanted to try a simpler template.

I’ve always had a sidebar on a left and now I want it on the right.

This site and my previous blog reflect my love for purple things, and I decided I wanted to something to represent my love for music.

My mood has changed!

Now that it’s all set up (thanks Lennel, dinner is on me tomorrow!), I’m beginning to feel reluctant about moving on. I’m going to miss squareberry’s – the template’s a birthday present from the boy last year. I love everything about it- the colours, the header image with my favourite clock…It’ll still be here though!

See you at andante-favori and update your links/bookmarks/whatever!

Salad Stop!

July 18th, 2010 Posted 11:12 pm

Yesterday, Lennel was sick and we went for a healthy dinner option at Salad Stop

I am a huge fans of salads. The bigger the better, the more ingredients to chomp, the yummier. Salad Stop was awesome! For 8.80, you get a huge bowl of leaves (see pictures), and an unlimited selection of ‘free’ toppings from a choice of 40+. Also got some chicken to go with it for an additional $2. Complimentary breadsticks and however much dressing you like!

A large, satisfying portion- we were stuffed! I think we’ll be heading to the one at Novena Square often, yay for convenience. Apparently, they do online orders too!

This is my new favourite salad.

Unbelievable Coincidence

Before I left the house today, I saw my navy blue ‘Long Champ’ bag from Bangkok and was thinking about how it was so convenient to use, and I should have bought one more…

When I met Kim (yes, mouse is Kim), she passed me part 2 of my birthday present and told me to open it at home. The following conversation happened immediately as I put the present away:

Me: (still thinking of my regrets) You know this brand of bags called Long Champ?

Mouse: OMG, open the present. Its Long Champ.

She got her mum to buy me the purple one from Bangkok!!!

What more, I also gave her a purple bag for her birthday!

And look, during her birthday last year, I gave her a Little Miss Naughty Plush Toy…when she was wearing the Little Miss Naughty shirt!

Unbelievable.

The Girl’s Guide to Everything

I’m only a few chapters into this book but its so amusing I’ve to share it!

How To Walk in High Heels: A Girl’s Guide to Everything by Camillia Morton

‘From appreciating wine to understanding modern art, placing a bet to playing poker, wearing a hat to finding the mains, changing a tyre to loading an i-pod, HOW TO WALK IN HIGH HEELS helps you navigate life’s challenges with style.

Camilla has been ably assisted by a host of experts including Vivienne Westwood, Manolo Blahnik and Kylie, who offer tips on everything from the perfect poached egg to looking good in a photo.

Funny and informative, packed with great quotes and fascinating facts this will transform your approach to everything from getting dressed to hanging wallpaper. Turn your exasperated aaaaarrrrrghs into confident ahhhhs!’

Description from: http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Walk-High-Heels-Everything/dp/0340836059

Now, some of the funniest things I’ve read:

From ‘How to Impress the In-Laws’- “Also, take a good hard look at the father, as this is the wrinkly version of what you may end up with.”

From “Birthdays”- “Men may carelessly forgot them, while women try to and cannot.”

From “Weddings- What to wear”- “Comparatively simple for the bride, utter nightmare for everyone else.”

From “How to hold court from your sick bed”- “Keep your guests at a slight distance, as you don’t want to pass on the flu, nor do you want them to see how red your nose is.”

HAHA! Fortunately, Camilla is not made of just wit and sarcasm. In fact, besides giving useful advice for girls (you got to decide for yourself what you want to take and what to discard), she generally advices graciousness and consideration, which I like! For example-

From “Birthdays”- “Anyone can remember Christmas. Birthdays are for the individual and so that day must be special for them. It must not be forgotten. ”

From “Weddings- RSVP”- “You HAVE to RSVP promptly and politely to wedding invitations, ideally on the cards supplied, whether you can attend or can’t think of anything worst.’

From “Weddings- Think of others”- “If you do see someone on their own, go up and say something to them or compliment their dress…Compassion.”

From “How to have a good bedside manner”- “Ask them (i.e. ill person in bed) if there is anything that you can get them, and indeed what their symptoms are…be as nice and considerate and soothing to them as you would expect them to be to you. If You have good bedside manner then when you are sick they will want to fuss over you.”

From “How to rebuff unwanted advances”- “Never make fun of a love-struck fool because one day it could be you. Treat as you wish to be treated, and never date our of sympathy.”

Twilight

July 15th, 2010 Posted 6:33 pm

After approximately half a year, I have finally finished reading Twilight!!!! (4 exclammation marks- 1 for each book).

My take on the book? A few compelling moments here and there, but otherwise…neverending, boring and ridiculous. I won’t say its a waste of time to read…but towards the end, i was reading on for the sake of finishing what I begun.

Book 1: Typical teenage love story, lots of ‘I stared at his eyes’, ‘He looked so beautiful in the sun’, ‘I kept thinking of his kiss…’ *yadayada* But it brought me into the world of vampires, so it was quite fascinating. Plus I’m a sucker for romance.

Book 2: A waste of time with lots of ‘he broke my heart’, ‘I was burning’, ‘I can’t forget him…’. But well, Jacob’s character was developed in this book and I like him!

Book 3: I can’t remember…but I think all the time was spent waiting for a fight, and such a thick book just to kill one vampire!

Book 4: Okay, the twist in the love stories was i indeed unexpected! But once that happened, it was as good as ‘they lived happily ever after’ for me, and the rest of the book was bland. Again, waiting for a fight…that never happened.

That said, I do like escaping into a fantasy world. This series has accompanied me on many long bus rides, boring plane rides, lonely nights in hotel rooms…and I always read them when I was as a break from piano practice!

Thanks Sue Ann for lending me the series for sooooo long. You are mst gracious and kind- I hope you find them back in your hands in an acceptable state. I took pains to carry them around in ziplock bags!

Our one and only couple tee, LOL. I’ll admit that I’m one of those who roll their eyes at couples in matching outfits (nothing against the couples though!)…but I saw these funny shirts along a street in Bangkok and succumbed. They’re amusing right?

BTW, we are only wearing it in public once.
